Photo Gallery

About

The Photo Gallery is great way to showcase photos and images on your website. The gallery displays a series of thumbnail images of photos that open to full size on click. Your images are displayed in a pop-up slideshow format and we can set up your gallery to reflect the unique style of your website.

Here's an example of the photo gallery - Walindi Resort & MV FeBrina Photo Gallery.

What are the benefits?

  • Quickly setup photo galleries by just uploading images to FTP.

How do I use?

You will need to add the images via FTP or via our upload image system in the editor,  then just add the curly brackets into whever you want the gallary displayed.  Our code does the rest.

Setting up the Photo Gallery

Create a page (skip this step if page is already created). See the Creating pages section for details.

Add the function for the photo gallery. The function to display the photo gallery on the page is photogallery }.

Adding code for the photo gallery

Add content to your page.

You can add content above and below your photo gallery. For example:

Check out our fantastic photo gallery.

Curly bracket leftphotogallery}

Please contact us if you would like to purchase one of our images.
Adding more than one gallery

If you have more than one gallery on your website, you can add this to the page by including an underscore and the name of your gallery in the function.

For example if your gallery was called MyPhotos, the content function would be:

photogallery_MyPhotos }

Your images must be uploaded to the /images/photo_gallery folder and the folder name must be the same as the name of your gallery. In the example above, it would be /images/photo_gallery/MyPhotos. See below for more information on uploading images.

Note: The folder name must not contain any spaces or ampersands (&).
Administration of the Photo Gallery

Uploading images

To upload and manage the images in your photo gallery, you will need to use an FTP program.

Login to your site using an FTP program. See using FTP for details.

Copy your images to the /images/photo_gallery folder. Note: If you are uploading more than one gallery, you will need to create a separate folder for each gallery underneath this directory structure.

Close your FTP program.
Your images will now appear on your photo gallery page.

Note: The thumbnail images that appear on the page are automatically created from your photos. You do not need to upload any additional thumbnail images.

Sizing images

Your images will display in the same dimensions as your uploaded image.

If you would like all of your images to be the same size, you will need to adjust the dimensions of your images using a photo editing program before you upload them. See using images in WebEd for more details.

Naming images (order they will appear)

Your images will appear in alphabetical order by title of the photo. If you would like your photos in another order, you will need to add a number before the file name.

For example, if your images were named by subject, they would appear in this order on the page:
  1. boating.jpg
  2. ice-skating.jpg
  3. skiing.jpg
If you wanted the skiing photo to appear first and the ice skating photo to display last, you would need to add a number in front of the file name like this:
  1. 01skiing.jpg
  2. 02boating.jpg
  3. 03ice-skating.jpg
Linking to a photo gallery

If you would like to view a particular photo gallery but do not want it to appear within the content of a page, you can link directly to your photo gallery using your web browser.

For example, you may want to send a link to one of your clients showing them particular photos in the gallery, but you do not want all visitors to your site to be able to access them.

Open your website in your web browser.

Go to the address bar and change the address to: http://www.yourdomain.com.au/gallery.asp?gallery=YourFolder.

For example, if you named your folder MyPhotos3, the address would be http://www.yourdomain.com.au/gallery.asp?gallery=MyPhotos3
Send this address to your clients to view the gallery.
