Tools & Icons

The tools available in WebEd are similar to those available in Microsoft Word with additional tools specific to website development. The following is a list of icons and their uses.
 

Full Screen (enlarges the window to fill the screen) click again to bring screen back to normal size

Preview (shows you what your page will look like)

Search (Produces a pop up dialog box to search and / or replace text)

Spell Check (produces a pop up dialog box to spell check your page)

Cut (to cut text or images)

Copy (to copy text or images)

Paste (to paste copied text or images)

Paste from Word (this icon removes Word formatting and allows you to paste directly from a word document). You can not copy and paste direct from Word without doing this, but problems may still occur. See About Importing Text

Undo (un-does the last command)

Redo (re-does the previous command)

Foreground Colour (allows you to choose or create a foreground colour or text colour)

Background Colour (allows you to choose or create a background colour)

Bookmark (creates a bookmark you can link to on the same page or another internal page) See section on links

Hyperlink (create a hyperlink to an external site or a bookmark)

Image (allows you to add an image or make any changes to an existing image through this icon) See section on Images

Flash (for inserting flash images )

Media (for inserting Media clips onto website)

Internal Link (Creates an Internal link to a page within your own website)

Insert Table (initially creates the table)

Edit Table/Cell (allows you to edit the table size, the table or the cell within the table)

Show/Hide Guidelines (when working with tables it is often helpful to be able to see the table guidelines. This icon allows you to do this)

Absolute Positioning. Select an area of text, then click this icon to allow you to absolutely position page elements.

  Insert Symbol (produces a pop up window of characters to insert into your document)

Line (using this icon creates a line across the page or table). Note: You can only change the colour of this line in HTML.

Form Editor (allows you to build forms) See also section on Forms.

Remove Formatting (cleans selected text of any formatting. This is a handy way to remove all formatting for a selection.)

View/Edit Source (allows you to view and edit the source code -normally used by advanced users familiar with HTML)

Style & Formatting (this button alters the 'Styles & Formatting' that has been preset within your pages and run throughout the website. Although it is advisable to use 'Styes' within your website, see Styles it is not advisable to make changes to these without first contacting Customer community Services.)

Style Selection (produces a pop up box of all preset styles within your website) It is advisable to use Styles at all time rather than individual formatting. See section on Styles.

Paragraph

Paragraph (select from a drop down list one of many font styles & sizes)

Font Name

Font Name (Choose from a drop down list one of the fonts available)

Size

Size (Choose from a drop down list one of the font sizes available)

Bold (bolds selected text)

Italic (italics selected text)

Underline (underlines selected text)

Justify Left (lines text up on the left)

Justify Centre (centers selected text)

Justify Right (lines text up on the right)

Justify Full (spreads text evenly over the line or paragraph of selected text)

Numbering (creates numbered sentences & paragraphs)

Bullets (creates bulleted sentences & paragraphs)

Indent (creates an indent on the left)

Outdent (creates an indent on the right)
