SYDNEY - March 14, 2011

Monday morning dawned bright & sunny as the first intrepid D1 Hybrid Dry Suit Test Divers collected at Shelley Beach, Manly to take the D1 underwater in Australia for the first time.
Christer Falkeborn, MD Waterproof Sweden, was on hand to brief, (wearing bright orange). Richard Nichols, MD of Dive Centre Manly & Halcyon distributor (far left) escorted each dive on the day. |
Della Ross, one of the few females on the day - still managed to look fabulous in a men's medium-size D1 when really she should have been in an XS.
With extra padding in the boots, Della tackled the reef and came out smiling.
A big fan of Waterproof suits, Della has almost the entire range from 3mm steamer to 6mm semi - now she's keen to add the D1 Hybrid to her collection.

Christer tackles shore support in the
highly challenging conditions !!!

Richard Nichols escorts our first divers
out of the water - it's thumbs up all round.
Richard said the D1 was the most comfortable dry suit he had ever worn. He just couldn't get over it - & he's dived in a few
Sue hands out extra weight. Because of the D1's innovative lining and it's incompressability at any depth, extra weights were needed to get the buoyancy right.
Christer did point out the D1 was probably not really designed for 30 minute 6 metre dives in 23 degree water!

Karl Lang, a Swedish dive instructor,
had to fly all the way to Sweden to try his new D1 Hybrid suit!
Actually Karl was on holiday when he saw the suit at OzTek & in Dive Log, considering he already has a couple fo Waterproof suits, he felt he couldn't pass up the opportunity to test the latest in the range.
Karl wasn't disappointed & Christer was
very impressed!
Many thanks to Dive Centre Manly for providing cylinders, gear & additional weights.

MELBOURNE - March 16, 2011
Truly blessed, Rye Pier turned on the weather for our Victorian D1 Test Divers, although it's a long walk, no one got sweaty inside their D1s and everyone came out raving about how different it was to dive in compared to traditional trilaminates.
Chris Williams came fully prepared and was thrilled with the results.
Another winner was the silicone seals - easy to get on & off, easy to change if broken.
Every diver in Sydney, Melbourne & Perth commented on how comfortable the silicone seals were to handle & wear.

More intrepid divers including (from left) Greg Francis-Wright, Corry Allan MD Aquatics Adventures Hallam, Kane Roep and Jim Dyer.
Jim had to forsake his D1 for Kane but didn't mind too much as he still had his 7mm Waterproof to keep him warm on the second dive.

Andrew Jameison & Bek Ten Hoopen arrived in style by boat (captained by John Wilson, Bay City Scuba) to try the D1 Hybrid Drysuit.
Again, Bek's suit was far too large but it gave her an idea of what the suit was like to dive in, even if the feet were like extra fins!!
Bek kept us all entertained with her winning smile and enthusiasm about all things diving

The entry at Rye Pier - after the long walk, it was great to leap into the water and check out the marine life.
Many thanks to Academy of Scuba, Rye for providing cylinders, gear and additional weights when required

PERTH - Saturday March 19, 2011

Rebecca Giles (PDA Balcatta) and Nelson Prado de Camargo Periera, manager of Australasian Diving Academy Cannington striding out.
Nelson led every dive on the day and kindly relinquished his D1 to fit another diver who arrived unexpectedly!
Getting ready to go test diving!

Nelson giving the thumbs up
(before he had to give his suit up!)
The weather was beautiful - and did not let us down, although I think there were a few red faces at the end of the day!
BK climbs into his D1 with ease - because of the lining, these suits are extremely easy to get on & off.
The lining is spongy & comfortable although it is better to wear something thin between your skin & the lining.
Luckily Christer had extra socks for everyone to borrow

Nelson preparing to take another group diving, by the end of the day visibility wasn't fantastic but Nelson did manage to take a couple of underwater pictures.

Another great dive and the end of the first D1 Test Diver Roadshow
